David Alexander

David Lyle Alexander, age 68, of Elsie, MI passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing, MI. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI on Wednesday, November 27th at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Renee Hahn will officiate. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dave was born in Owosso, Michigan on January 13, 1945, the son of Lyle Emerson and Mae Jean (Wiers) Alexander. Dave graduated from Owosso High School with the class of 1963, and married Bette A. O'Boyle on July 17, 1965. He had resided in Elsie since 1967. "Papa" was a devoted family man, and loved following his grandchildren's activities along with trying to beat them at a good game of cards. He loved spending time at the trailer on Lake Leelanau, fishing, hunting, and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved chasing the 1225 Train, watching the Blue Angels, and giving tractor rides on the farm. He was an avid Johnny Cash and Detroit Lions fan. Dave retired from Michigan Milk Producers Association in 2009, and enjoyed volunteering at Owosso Memorial Healthcare after retirement. He was a past member of Chapin United Methodist Church, Elsie, MI.

Dave is survived by his wife Bette Alexander of Elsie, MI; daughter Kim and Ernie Stafford of Grand Rapids, MI; son Rick and Shawn Alexander of Ovid, MI; daughter Shannon and Noel Thelen of Haslett, MI; son Ryan and Brandee Alexander of Howell, MI; 10 grandchildren Shane Alexander, Seth Alexander, Luke Alexander, Hunter Alexander, Emma Stafford, Nicklaus Nelson, Jaden Thelen, Claire Stafford, Ellie Nelson, Xander Thelen; brother Fred Alexander of Lansing, MI; sister Ellen and Lloyd Watson of Owosso, MI; in laws Janice English; Bob and Kay O'Boyle, Marilyn and Gordon Hahn, Norman and Bea O'Boyle, and Larry Schnepp; and several nieces and nephews.
