Dawn Burnham

Dawn Ione Burnham, age 91, of St. Johns, MI passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Sparrow Health Systems, Sparrow Campus, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, MI on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Tyler Barlage will officiate. Burial will take place at Eureka Cemetery, Clinton County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Dawn was born in Jackson County, Michigan on September 29, 1922, the daughter of John Paul and Mary Harriet (Dawkins) Petro. She graduated from St. Louis High School. Dawn married James Burnham at the St. Louis Church of Christ on August 15, 1943; he preceded her in death on June 17, 2002. Dawn enjoyed gardening, sewing, poetry, and volunteering at the church. She was a wonderful baker, especially pies, sugar cookies, and cinnamon rolls. She was secretary/treasurer for the family business, Burnham Farm Tiling. Dawn and James loved traveling, and visited many countries throughout the years. She was a member of Community Christian Church, St. Johns, MI.

She is survived by her 5 children; Michael and Amy Burnham of Chicago, IL, Patricia and Alan Johnson of Otisville, MI, John and Joan Burnham of DeWitt, MI, Coni and Michael Stephenson of Camarillo, CA, Jeff and Roxanne Burnham of St. Johns, MI, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Rita and Max Hott of St. Johns, MI, Lettie and Theron Jessup of St. Louis, MI, sister in law Betty Petro of Alma, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Judith Ann, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.
