Dean Somers

Dean L. Somers, age 63, of Elsie, MI died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Sparrow Health Systems Sparrow Campus, Lansing, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., Pastor Phil Darling will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 2-8 with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel.

Dean was born in Ovid, Michigan on August 16, 1945, the son of Vern and Ruby (Debar) Somers. He graduated from Chesaning High School. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area. Dean married Delores May Dalrymple in St. Johns, MI on June 20, 2003. Dean was a member of the Mid-Michgian Street Rod Association, Lansing, Michigan and the National Street Rod Association. He was a mechanic and was a street rodder and enjoyed building many street rods over the years. He also taught at LCC auto body program and enjoyed hunting & fishing. His family was very important to him. Dean took stray animals in, and enjoyed singing and dancing and cooking.

He is survived by his wife Delores Somers of Elsie, Michigan, daughter Terri Lynn Mosakowski of Detroit, Michigan, 6 sons; Dean Somers of Chapin, Michigan, Scott Somers of St. Johns, Michigan, Tracy and Trudy Somers of Bannister, Michigan, Justin Dalrymple of Flushing, Michigan, Roger Rutledge of Maple Rapids, Michigan, William Rutledge of Elsie, Michigan, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and 4 sisters; Jeanette and Eugene Mitchell, Ruth Ann and Jerry Harris, Linda and Ray Angell, Connie and Paul Corread. He was predeceased by his parents.
