Delbert Wayne Crumbaugh age 88, of Ashley, MI, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, in Ithaca, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor George Showers officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Delbert was born in Bethany Township, MI on April 23, 1930, the son of Harold and Margaret (Wolfgang) Crumbaugh. He graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1948 as the Salutatorian and graduated from Michigan State University, Ag Short Course.
On June 18, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart Donna June Cook at Edgewood Church of God in Ithaca, MI. They have enjoyed 68 years together, traveling, attending local sporting events and serving their community. His family was very important to him, providing as much philosophical advice as they would listen to. He taught his children by example.
Delbert resided all of his life in Gratiot County and has lived in Ashley since 1940. He was a farmer and cattleman. Delbert served on several boards including: Gratiot County Jury Board, Past President of Michigan's Cattleman's Association, Ashley Lions Club, County 4H Council, and he was a 4H leader. He was also a member of Ashley United Methodist Church where he also served on the board. He was voted the Jaycee Young Farmer of the year in 1961; and he and his family were voted Gratiot County Farm Family of the Year in 1984. He was an Ashley School Board Member and Washington Township Trustee. Delbert also served on MSU Learning Corporation Board and Animal Science Board, Gratiot County Farm Bureau Board, and County Ag. Council. Delbert was the Michigan Master Farmer Award recipient in 2016. He and Donna were the Grand Marshall's of the Ashley Trading Days and Homecoming Parade. He enjoyed his Monday ritual of attending Michigan Livestock Yards (UPI) and his daily attendance to the local coffee shop.
He is survived by his wife Donna June Crumbaugh of Ashley, MI; children: Michael Ray and Carolyn Crumbaugh of Stanton, MI; Mark Alan and Brenda Crumbaugh of Ashley, MI; Scott Wayne and Amy Crumbaugh of Ithaca, MI; LuAnn and Kim Diffin of Ashley, MI; Wade Aaron and Heather Crumbaugh of Fort Mill, SC; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; his brother Gerald and Francine Crumbaugh; sister Suzi and Dennis Boyle; special niece and nephew Ashley and Kevin Boyle; sister-in-law Marilyn Crumbaugh; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Don Dennis and Janet Cook; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, and sister-in-law Jolynn Crumbaugh.
