Delores Patricia Colthorp, age 79, of St. Louis, MI passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot, Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Noon, with Evangelist Jerry Utt of Community of Christ officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00-12:00 P.M. prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Delores was born in St. Louis, Michigan on July 30, 1936, the daughter of Carl Ammaron and Irene May (Leathorn) Hill.
Delores was a 1954 graduate of St. Louis High School and then a graduate of Murphy Beauty School in Mt. Pleasant. She then worked in her mother's "Rose Beauty Salon" or her mother worked for her in the "Hair Gallery" for the next 60 years. Delores thoroughly enjoyed sewing and crocheting items for her family and lots of other crafts. She sang in several quartets and with the Heart of Michigan Chorus of Sweet Adelines for the last 54 years. She has been active in her church and has been a great counselor of her family and others. In 1957, Delores married Grant Colthorp and assisted him in his pastoral and teaching duties. One of her favorite hobbies was playing the guitar. Caring for and helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. She was a member of Community of Christ Church Alma, MI.
Delores is survived by her husband and soul mate Grant Colthorp of St. Louis, MI, 2 sons; Scott Colthorp of St. Louis, MI, Greg and Brenda Colthorp of Grand Rapids, MI, 2 daughters Penny and Raul Silva of St. Louis, MI, Jennette and Ford Willett of St. Louis, MI, 10 grandchildren; Zachary, Chris & Brandi, Hillary, Camille, Chandel, Justin, Emily, Travis, Raul Jr. and Rena, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Karen Churches of Wolverine, MI, 2 brothers-in-law; Russell and Lena Colthorp of Davison, MI, Cecil and Bernita Colthorp of Fruitport, MI and many nieces and nephews. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in infancy and brother-in-law Everett Colthorp.
