Don Rex Nagel, age 88, of Breckenridge, MI went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Friday, October 9, 2015.
Funeral Services will be held at Wheeler Free Methodist Church, Wheeler, MI on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Don Priest and James Thompson officiating. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Don was born in Breckenridge, Michigan on November 30, 1926, the son of Carl Fredrick and Hazel Jane (Wetmore) Nagel. Don married Dorothy Burtch on July 1, 1949 at the Wheeler Free Methodist Church, Wheeler, MI. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
Don served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Don and Hulan Sanger worked for a short time building Nasan Travel Trailers. He worked for the State of Michigan Transportation for many years, retiring from there. Don was a carpenter and a contract painter. He built both homes that his family lived in. He was a member of the Wheeler Free Methodist Church, Breckenridge VFW, and the Breckenridge planning commission for many years.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Nagel of Breckenridge, MI, 3 children; Rick and Robin Nagel of Mesa, AZ, Sherry and Hiram Thompson of Manton, MI, Connee and Dennis Priest of Breckenridge, MI, 11 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Hazel Nagel, son James Don Nagel, brother Carl Nagel, and great granddaughter Amelia Thompson.
