Donald Eugene Fitzpatrick Sr. age 82, of Sumner, Michigan passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011 of cancer with his family by his side on the date of his birth, in Union Township, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor John Hagerman will officiate. Burial will take place at Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 3-7 P.M. and on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 2-7 with family present 2-4 & 5-7 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
Donald was born in Union Township, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on July 28, 1929, the son of William Joseph and Fern Elsie (Jones) Fitzpatrick. On May 31, 1947 he married Beatrice Hollabaugh in Crystal, Michigan. Beatrice passed away May 18, 1994. He owned and operated Shamrock of Michigan LTD / Fitzpatrick Transport for 65 years. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and he loved country music and enjoyed camping and traveling. Don was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, St. Louis, Michigan #1566. He was also a member of the American Trucking Association, Michigan Limited Carriers Association Inc. and Owner Operator Independent Driver Association.
He is survived by 3 daughters; Sharon Fitzpatrick of Traverse City, MI, Faye Fitzpatrick of Fort Pierce, FL, Pamela and Tony Blackford of Mt. Pleasant, MI, 4 sons; Donald and Joann Fitzpatrick Jr. of Rosebush, MI, Patrick and Mary Fitzpatrick of Cadillac, MI, Michael Fitzpatrick of Ithaca, MI, Dennis Fitzpatrick of Vestaburg, MI, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Virginia and William Brien of Traverse City, MI, Rosemarie and Carl Litwiller of Sumner, MI, brother, Jim Fitzpatrick of Sumner, MI, brother-in-law Robert and Joan Hollabaugh of North Star, MI, 2 sisters-in-law; Margaret Gilbert of Ithaca, MI, and Blanche Fisher of Vestaburg, MI. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
