Donald Hier

Donald Wayne Hier age 78, of Ovid, MI, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Ashley Care Center, Ashley, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Bill Dye officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Donald was born in Perrinton, MI on November 14, 1938, the son of Willis and Thelma Jean (Moore) Hier.  He married Harriet Rose Simpson on May 4, 1957 in Ovid, MI. Harriet passed away on July 20, 2013.

Don enjoyed showing his 1969 Chevrolet truck at car shows. He was a member of the USMA Car Club. Don retired from Georgia Pacific after 51 years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his 3 sons; Dale and Judy Hier of Elsie, MI, Jeff Hier and Peggy of Ovid, MI, Donald and Sheila Hier of Ashley, MI, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and brother LeRoy and Marilyn Walker, Ovid, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and brother Robert Hier.
