Donald Mead

Donald Dee Mead, age 85 of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Grove Bible Church, St. Johns, MI on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Dr. Brendan (BJ) Holmquist officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI with a private family committal.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2-7 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI and will be held on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Donald was born in Middlebury Township, MI on September 1, 1932, the son of Horace Irwin and Hazel Dell (Lepior) Mead.  Donald was a graduate of Ovid High School and resided most of his life in Ovid. Donald married Alberta Husted on June 3, 1953 at Most Holy Trinity, Fowler, MI.  Donald worked at Magnetek in Owosso, MI and retired in 1997. He enjoyed bowling and playing cards.  Donald was an avid Tigers fan.  He was a member of Grove Bible Church, St. Johns, MI.

He is survived by  his wife Alberta Mead of Ovid, MI, son Dr. Ronald and Lori Mead of Gaylord, MI, son Raymond Mead of Ovid, MI, son Wayne Mead of Punta Gorda, FL, 5 grandchildren; Kristin Nugent, Cameron Mead, Trevor Mead, Michelle Kavouras, and Matthew Mead, and 8 great-grandchildren.  Donald was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin Donald Mead on January 28, 1977, grandson Jason Lucas Mead on July 30, 2000 and his siblings; Robert Mead, Kenneth Mead, Ellen Drueth, Evelyn Taphouse, Lila Moore, Bonnie Carroll, and Gale Mead.
