Donald Wood

Donald Richard Wood died March 8, 2012. Born on April 30, 1915 to Clinton and Myrtle Wood, Don was a lifelong resident of Pewamo. He married Mary Ann Cook, his high school classmate, on June 7, 1938. Married nearly 69 years, they were the longest married couple in Pewamo's history.

There were six children: Patricia "Pat" Wood, Bill (Janet) Wood, Fred (Joann) Wood, Kathy (Paul) Grantz, Jenny (Carl) Shangraw, and Mike (Kathy) Wood; 19 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Mary Ann, Pat and Bill preceded him in death.

Don was a farmer who worked hard, but played harder. He will be remembered as adventurous, energetic, a great story teller, teaser and someone who thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends. He loved traveling and visited almost every state and was a member of The Knights of Columbus in Pewamo. His greatest passion though, was fishing, anywhere, anytime, with anyone. The Wood Family wishes to especially thank the Green Acres staff as well as Ionia Area Hospice for their loving care.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo, with Fr. Charlon Mason presiding. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at St. Mary's Chapel in Westphalia with the Rosary being prayed at 3 PM and 8 PM.
