Doris June Dahlke-Hyland age 73 of Elsie, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M., with Mr. Chuck Emmert officiating. Interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Doris was born in Sturgis, MI on June 7, 1944, the daughter of Frederick and Myrtle (Smith) Nash. Doris married James Hyland on September 2, 1989 in Lansing, MI and resided most of her life in the Ovid Elsie area.
Doris loved to travel. She earned her Masters Degree from Michigan State University and worked for many years in Social Work. She also was a substitute teacher for many years in Ovid-Elsie Schools. Doris will be remembered for her kind and giving heart. She was an ordained minister with Pointman International. Doris was a member of the Red Hat Society, Elsie Literary Club, and Elsie Arts Council. Doris was very active in her community and school functions. But most of all her family meant the world to her. She was a member of Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns.
She is survived by her husband James Hyland of Elsie, MI, 2 sons; Dana and Karen Dahlke of Elsie, MI, Karl and Becky Dahlke of Ovid, MI, 3 stepsons; Glenn and Sherry Hyland of Kingsford, MI, William and Daysi Hyland of Phoenix, MI, Bryan and Amy Hyland of Kingsford, MI, 9 grandchildren; Mikelann Frennette, Megan Murdock, Jenna Barber, Nicholas Dahlke, Wyatt Dahlke, Damen Butler, Sidney Kurtz, Jaron Hyland, and Dani Hyland, 1 great-grandson Maddox Kurtz, brother James and Candice Nash of Albion, MI, sister Marilyn Tuttle of Michigan Center, MI, and sister-in-law Judy Nash of Stockbridge, MI. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Victoria Dahlke, and her sister Janet Bernstein.
