Doris Aletha Lord age 86 of Traverse City, Michigan formerly of St. Louis, MI died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Traverse Manor Assisted Living, Traverse City, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Guy Modlin will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 4-6 P.M.
Doris was born in Ferndale, Michigan on December 11, 1921 the daughter of Homer and Frances ( Naisbit ) Cummings. She was a life long resident of St. Louis until retirement in 1979 to Florida and Northern Michigan. Doris married Howard L. Lord on June 17, 1939 in St. Louis, Michigan. He died on May 10, 1995. Doris was a Nurses Aide and worked in Central Supply at Gratiot Community Hospital for many years until her retirement. Doris had a fond love of gardening, as well as her hobbies; reading and birdwatching.Howerver, her passion was her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who will forever be in our hearts. Doris was a member of St. Louis Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children; Harvey L. Lord of DeWitt, MI, Sue Ann & Craig Smith of Traverse City, MI, grandchildren; Tamara L. & Stephen Balyo of Houghton Lake, MI, Timothy L. & Esther Lord of Potterville, MI, Tricia L. Rummelt of Lansing, MI, Jonathan & Jennifer Smith of Maple City, MI, Justin Smith of Traverse City, MI, step-grandson Matthew & Jessica Van Winkle of DeWitt, MI, great grandchildren; Justin Balyo, Kayla Balyo, Amber Lord, Alyssa Lord, Alexis Lord, Andrea Lord, Timothy Lord Jr., Ashley Lord, Teagan Rummelt, Halle Smith, and great great grandchild Jasmine Salinas. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Ann Lord in 1948, great granddaughter Kaitlyn Smith in 2003, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.
In lieu of flowers contibutions may be made in memorial to Hospice, Traverse City, MI. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
