Doris C. Martin age 86 of Ithaca, Michigan died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Carson City Hospital in Carson City, Michigan.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Rev. Reid Martin will officiate, burial will take place in Fritz Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday, October 16, from 2-8 P.M with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. and Sunday October 17, 2004 from 2-5 P.M.
Doris was born in Fulton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan on October 11, 1918 the daughter of Albert Chris & Mary Julia ( Pickering ) Sparks. She attended Wermouth Country School in New Haven Township and had been a lifelong resident of Ithaca, Michigan. On March 14, 1941 she married Ned Martin at the Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, Michigan.
In her early years she was a housekeeper for the Crawford & Kernen families. She was then employed by the Wolverine Shoe Company and the Masonic Home. She was also a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed children, and loved gardening. She was a wonderful seamstress, and an excellent cook. She collected dolls & dishes. She was good at fishing and enjoyed their cottage at Houghton Lake. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and bowled on a league for many years. Doris was a member of the CSA, & Moose Lodge #1566.
Survivors include her husband, Ned Martin of Ithaca, MI 6 children, Sandra & Paul Felzke of Dewitt, MI, Sharon Ann Martin of Ithaca, MI, Sally & James Weller of Middleton, MI, Sue & Ray Forman of Elk Lake, MI, Allan & Rosemary Martin, of Owosso, MI, Dan & Beth Martin of St. Johns, MI, 9 grandchildren, Connie, Jane, John, Lynette, Brian, Jason, Jill, Tarah & Clay, 10 great grandchildren, 1 sister Virginia Mancini of Grayling, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 brother, Bernard Sparks, 1 sister, Josephine Burns, 1 brother Robert Sparks, great grandson Edward Felzke. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of Gratiot Area Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, Chapel.
