Doris Jean Whalen age 85 of Roscommon formerly of Owosso, Michigan died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at her daughter's home in Roscommon, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church Owosso, MI on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Fr. Robert Kolenski will officiate with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chesaning, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 6-8 P.M & Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A Rosary will be prayed Wednesday Evening at 6:00 P.M.
Doris was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on January 22, 1923 the daughter of Eugene Forest and Ethel ( Hawkins ) Ferrall. She resided most of her life in Gratiot & Shiawassee County, before moving to Roscommon in 2002 so she could enjoy nature at it's best in Northern Michigan. She had attended school in Bannister, Michigan. Doris married William Whalen on May 11, 1946 in Elsie, Michigan. William died on October 11, 1995. Doris was a homemaker and mom and had worked for Universal Electric, Senate Drive-in, & Green Meadow Farms. She had also worked at the Bendix Corp. during the war. Doris was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Owosso, and St. Michaels Catholic Church, Roscommon, Michigan. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Society.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Rosalie & Duane Ketchum of Chesaning, MI, Agnes & Robert Taylor of Sarasota, FL, Ellen Bearup of Roscommon, MI, 5 sons; James & Lois Whalen of Owosso, MI, Daniel & Delores Whalen of Hart, MI, Harold & Barbara Scott of Sterling, MI, Eugene Peterson of Owosso, MI, Edward & Kathleen Whalen of Bancroft, MI, 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and special friends; Peg Ostipow of Owosso, MI, Bertha Kuchar of Henderson, MI, Debra Bailey of Roscommon, MI. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, grandson James Whalen, great granddaughter Allah Sloat.
Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, Grayling or American Lung Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.
