Dorothy Lola Ballantine, age 87, of Elsie, MI passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. and on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born in Maple Rapids, Michigan on June 3, 1928, the daughter of Herman and Florence (VanHosen) Taege. She graduated from Roger B. Wilson High School in St. Johns in 1945; she went on to get her Bachelors Degree from MSU. Dorothy married Rex Ballantine Sr. on June 23, 1951 in St. Johns, MI.
Dorothy enjoyed growing flowers in her home and gardening, knitting, sewing, cross stitch, and horses. She retired from Elsie High school after 5 years of teaching and she was a 4-H leader for 25 years. Dorothy had also worked at Hallead Ford in Elsie for over 20 years. She loved spending time with her husband Rex, children and her grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rex Ballantine Sr., daughter Debra Wright and Darren Askevich, grandson Nathan and Alexia Ballantine, granddaughter Rachel and Drew Barker, daughter in law Barb Ballantine, daughter in law Lori Oosterhouse and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Rex Ballantine Jr.
