Dorothy Nagel

Dorothy Hazel Nagel age 90 of Breckenridge, MI, went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Thursday, June 29, 2017.

Funeral Services will be held at Wheeler Free Methodist Church, Wheeler, MI, on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with her grandsons James Thompson and Don Priest officiating.  Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.  Visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.

Dorothy was born in Saginaw, MI on November 29, 1926, the daughter of Danual and Hazel (Butcher) Burtch. She graduated from Breckenridge High School. Dorothy married Don Rex Nagel on July 1, 1949, at the Wheeler Free Methodist Church, Wheeler, MI; Don passed away on October 9, 2015.

Dorothy enjoyed baking cookies and pies and giving them away to friends and family. Spending time with her family brought her great joy. She always had friends and family in and out of her home; as soon as you arrived at her home she would want to feed you.  She truly had the gift for hospitality and making you feel at home. Dorothy and Don held a Bible study in their home for many years.  She was a member of the Wheeler Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by 3 children; Rick and Robin Nagel of Mesa, AZ,  Sherry and Hiram Thompson of Manton, MI, Connee and Dennis Priest of Breckenridge, MI, 13 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 brothers; Louis Burtch of AZ, Melvin and Violet Burtch of St. Louis, MI, Kenneth and Marilyn Burtch of Kalamazoo, MI, and sister Lila Singer of CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, son James Don Nagel, and great granddaughter Amelia Thompson.
