Dorothy (Phinney)Day

Dorothy G. Day, 95, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010. Born in Lansing, February 8, 1915, she was the daughter of Ransom and Esther (Baker) Dietrich.

She was a member of Pilgrim (Price) United Methodist Church and active with the St. Johns Senior Center. She was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, having taught school in Clinton County for 16 years and in Lansing for 18 years.

Dorothy married Gerald Phinney on April 22, 1937 and he preceded her in death April 24, 1978. She married Earl Day on January 10, 1981 and he preceded her in death December 24, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her son James Phinney and brothers, Don and Jack Dietrich.

Surviving are two daughters, Geraldine (Arlond) Pearsall of DeWitt, MI, Ruth (Kenneth) Quincy of Clinton Twp., MI; one daughter in law, Elaine Phinney of Clinton, UT; six grandchildren, Michael (Jolene) Phinney of Layton, UT, Michelle Phinney of Houston, TX, Jeffrey (Lori) Pearsall of St. Johns, Susan Pearsall of Tampa, FL, Kristin (William) Porm of Roy, UT, and Jennifer (John) Hallead of St. Johns, MI; seven great and two great great grandchildren; and one sister, Clarice Curtis of Springfield, MO.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Pilgrim United Methodist Church in St. Johns, with burial at South Bingham Cemetery, and Pastor Ken Bremer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday at The Osgood Funeral Home, 104 East Cass St., St.Johns .
