Dorothy Rice

Dorothy L. Rice, age 71 of Ithaca, Michigan passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at her home. She worked for many years through Mid-Michigan District Health Department and Gratiot County FIA as a Social Worker. She was very successful in her career and had a passion for her job working with families and children.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Mr. John Tyler will officiate with burial at Ithaca Cemetery, in Ithaca, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Dorothy was born on July 25, 1932 in Amity, Iowa, the daughter of James Harold and Thelma Roberta (Smith) Pence. She graduated from Romeo High School in 1950, then from Spring Arbor Institute in 1986 with a Mastera�(TM)s Degree in Liberal Arts. On July 30, 1955 she married Howard Rice in Washington, Michigan. She enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, and adventures with her grandchildren. She also liked to play the piano and cook. She resided in Ithaca the last 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Rice of Ithaca, MI, 4 children, Howard Rice Jr. of Ithaca, MI, Harold Rice of Ithaca, MI, David & Paula Rice of Alma, MI, and Elizabeth & Ken Jakubczak of Ithaca, MI, 6 grandchildren, Corey & Cody Rice, Angel Rice, Jed Rice, Taylor & Ben Jakubczak, 2 sisters, Betty & Victor Smith of Arkansas, Janice & John Tyler of Des Plaines, IL, and many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, 1 brother, Donald Marvin Pence, and 1 sister, Pamela Sue Pence.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
