Dortha E. Platner, age 99, of Elsie, Michigan died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Ashley Care Center, Ashley, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, Michigan on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Dr. Donald Ferris-McCann officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 4-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel. There will be a Eastern Star Service on Friday evening 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Dortha was born in Brady Township, Michigan on September 3, 1915, the daughter of Edson and Minnie (Capen) Harris. On October 29, 1933 she married Paul Platner in Owosso, Michigan; Paul died August 3, 2003.
Dortha had worked as a bookkeeper and clerk for Darlings Hardware in Elsie for many years and had resided most of her life in Elsie area. Dortha was a member of many organizations; she was a former president of the Women's Literary Club in 1946, Order of Eastern Stars, and was the Worthy Patron, and was the Grand Representative of the Order of Eastern Stars. She was a Charter Member of the Elsie Historical Society, former president and secretary of the Clinton County Rural Carrier Association Auxiliary, and a former Cub and Girl Scout leader. She was also a member of Elsie United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Reta Gillson of Battle Creek, MI, 2 sons; Cleon Platner of Dimondale, MI, Duane and Sue Platner of Elsie, MI, 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Paul C. Platner, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers.
