Douglas John Maurer

      Douglas John Maurer, age 84, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, MI.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams presiding. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel. A Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

   Douglas was born in Lansing, MI on October 6, 1939, the son of Joseph E. and Frances (Smith) Maurer. He graduated from Resurrection Catholic School in Lansing. Doug married Nancy Mizger on May 15, 1980, in St. Johns, MI.

    Doug was part owner and operated Maurer's Industrial Laundry in Lansing for more than 20 years. He liked taking golf cart rides, sitting outside, and spending time with his friend Denny in Harrison. Doug always took care of his health, enjoyed running, and he jogged every day. Most of all, he loved time spent with his wife and step children. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI. He will be remembered for his laid back personality. 

    He is survived by wife Nancy Maurer; sons: Cliff and Dawn Clark, and Greg Clark, grandchildren: Jenny and Eric Vogel, Katie and Jered Carlson, Tina Clark, Michael and Jamie Clark, Johnny Deuel, Jessie Clark, Jack Carlson, Chevy Clark, and Adrianna Vogel.  He is also survived by siblings: siblings: Dick Maurer, Jane Knapp, Larry Maurer, Tom Maurer, Bill Maurer and Chris Verhoegstrate.  He was preceded in death by his parents, son Keith Clark, and brother Joseph Maurer.
