Douglas LeRoy VanDeusen, age 70, of Ovid, MI died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at United Church of Ovid on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery East, Henderson, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 5-8 PM. and Monday, October 24, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel.

Douglas was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 4, 1941, the son of Lewis and Dorothy (Good) VanDeusen. He married Marie Champlin on April 14, 1989.

Doug was a lifelong resident of Ovid, and retired from General Motors in 1993, he was a member of UAW Local 652. He owned and operated the Ovid Cafe since 1995. Doug loved NASCAR; especially driver Jimmy Johnson, his dogs Tripper and Buffy, was an avid Michigan State fan, enjoyed his classic car, going to the casino, bluegrass & polka music. His favorite pastime was picking on whoever he could find. He and Marie were Grand Marshalls for the Ovid Carriage Days, member of the Ovid DDA and past member of the Ovid Fire & Ambulance. Doug was very generous in volunteering for any event to support the community.

He is survived by his wife Marie VanDeusen of Ovid, MI, father Lewis VanDeusen of Owosso, son Rodney and Deanna VanDeusen of Ovid, MI, 3 daughters; Lori Price of Ovid, MI, Sheri and Ken Monks of Ovid, MI, Tracey VanDeusen of Ovid, MI, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 5 stepchildren; Alesha Royston of Jackson, MI, Philip Coon and Lori of Central Lake, MI, David Coon and Becky of Ovid, MI, Deidre and Allen Howard of Ovid, MI, Kimberly Coon of Elsie, MI, 11 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, aunt Edith Champlin of Chapin, MI, brother Richard and Joyce VanDeusen of Lake, MI, brother Jack and Georgene VanDeusen of Kentwood, MI, brother Calvin and Doris VanDeusen of St. Johns, MI, sister Linda and John Bona of Webster, NY, brother Jerry VanDeusen and Maryann of Elsie, MI, sister Pat and Bert Leland of Owosso, MI, brother Bill and Clara VanDeusen of Fowler, MI, sister in law Kathy VanDeusen of Ovid, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother Larry VanDeusen, in laws; John and Harriet Champlin, stepson Michael Coon, stepdaughter Sharalyn Monks, uncle Ernest VanDeusen, and 2 nephews; Lynn and David VanDeusen.
