Duane Carl Dancer of Alma, Michigan passed away September 1, 2007 at the age of 88 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, Michigan.
He was born July 13, 1919 in Breckenridge, Michigan, the son of LeRoy & Clementine (Brown) Dancer. He married Virginia Smith in St. Louis, Michigan on July 15th, 1942. He entered the military service in January of 1942 and served in the 5th Army stationed in North Africa and Italy, serving as Motor Sergeant. Duane was honorably discharged in 1945.
For a number of years he owned and operated his own milk hauling business, besides operating the family farm in Arcada Township. He also spent over 25 years employed at Cooper Chevrolet dealership in Ithaca, Michigan retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the Beebe United Methodist church where he had served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #256 in St. Louis, Michigan.
He loved the outdoors, camping, gardening, and visiting with neighbors and friends. Duane was very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.
Duane is survived by his wife, Virginia, two children: Brian & Roberta Dancer of Alma, Michigan, and Colleen & Michael Deline of St. Louis, Michigan; three grandchildren: Krista Dancer (Ryyan Kelley) of Alma Michigan, Brad & Jaime Dancer of Naples, FL; and Jeremy Dancer of Alma, Michigan; as well as two great-grandchildren; Mackenzie and Jake Dancer of Naples, FL. He is also survived by three brothers; Junior Dancer of Lansing, Michigan, Donald Dancer of Alma, Michigan and Gwendal Dancer of St. Louis, Michigan and one sister; Irma Owen of Alma, Michigan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will take place at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis chapel on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Sam Dunbar and Pastor Steve Young officiating. Burial will take place at Emerson Township Cemetery in Emerson Township, Michigan. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association or the American Legion Post #256 in St. Louis, Michigan. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
