Duane Leslie Wineland, age 83, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at The Laurels of Carson City.
In following Duane's wishes, a cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at North Star Cemetery.
Duane was born in St. Johns, Michigan on September 22, 1940, the son of Harold Benjamin and Letha Margaret (Winslow) Wineland. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School with the Class of 1960 and took pride in the fact that he never missed a day of school in his 13 years of education. Duane proudly served his country in the Michigan National Guard for 6 years and worked 32 years for General Motors before retiring.
On June 27, 1964, Duane married Colleen Eckelbarger at the North Star Church of the Nazarene. They have been married fifty-nine years. Duane enjoyed working in his garden, helping the local farmers, and deer hunting with his son-in-law and grandchildren. He loved his old RED International Harvester tractor and puttering in the barn.
He is survived by his wife Colleen, son Leslie (Brenda) Wineland, daughter Cynthia (Patrick) Frederick, five grandchildren: Tayler Wineland, Keilsey Wineland, Tanner Frederick, Haylie Frederick, and Gracie Frederick; and two great-grandchildren: Branson, and Adeline. He is also survived by three brothers: Larry (Bette) Wineland, Laurence (Judy) Wineland, and Keith (Debi) Wineland; sister-in-law Jeanene (Dave) Wright, brother-in-law Dave (Jan) Eckelbarger, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Lloyd Wineland, Dale Wineland, Doris Lightner, and Karen Wineland; and his best four-legged buddy Janie Jo.
