Earl J. "Toad" Netzley, age 83, of Alma, MI died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Wheeler Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Messer and Pastor Joseph Schultz officiating. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Gratiot County MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
Earl was born in Midland County, Michigan on November 20, 1927, the son of Ira and Beatrice (Morris) Netzley. He attended Curtis Country School in Emerson Twp. He married Nilah J. (Croy) Netzley on August 10, 1983 in Owosso, MI. His first wife Marian Schultz Netzley preceded him in death on July 17, 1982. Earl was a lifelong resident and farmer in St. Louis, and worked at Leonard Petroleum. Earl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially golfing in his late retirement years. He served his country in the US Air Corp during WWII as a sergeant. He was a member of Wheeler Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Nilah Netzley of Alma, MI, 2 daughters; Tanarae and John Lemmermann of Ithaca, MI, Pamela Haynes of Sunrise, FL, son Denis and Brenda Netzley of St. Louis, MI, stepchildren; Joyce Anderson, Jim and Julie Anderson, and Jeff and Tracy Anderson; grandchildren; Alan and Kellie Shankel of Dewitt, MI, Amy and Alan Foster of Breckenridge, MI, Autumn and Matthew Emmott of Traverse City, MI, Heather and Todd Bishop of Bay City, MI, Jacob and Erin Haynes of Swartz Creek, MI, Travis Netzley of Alma, MI, Seana and Tony Brown of Carson City, MI, 11 great grandchildren and one on the way, 5 step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, and a sister Lavonne and Russell Saxton of Alma, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marian, 2 brothers; Ira Jr., and Jerry, and a sister Beverly Kay.
