Edith Mae Oberlin, age 92, of Alma formerly of Elsie, Michigan died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at 10:00 A.M., Pastor Russell Morgan will officiate, and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Edith was born in Alma, Michigan on February 13, 1918, the daughter of Melvin and Martha (McDade) Wells. She graduated from Bannister High School with the class of 1937. On September 5, 1937 Edith married J. Allan Oberlin at his grandparents home that soon would become their own. They lived and raised their family on the farm near Elsie, until 1962 when they moved to Carland. She later moved to St. Johns, prior to her last move to Alma in 2008. She was a homemaker and later retired from Michigan State University. Edith loved gardening, cooking, sewing, and was totally devoted to her family. She was a 4-H club leader, was very involved in her community school and church activities, and a member of Clinton County Extension clubs for many years.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Carolyn and Lee Howard of Ellinton, FL, Martha and Jack Coleman of Edenville, MI, Mary and David Cassel of Mancelona, MI, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Allan, daughter Linda, 4 sisters, 1 brother & and 2 great grandchildren.
