Eileen Wilma Wheeler, age 79, of Ovid, Michigan, departed to be with her Savior, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, Michigan with her family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 24, 2025, with Pastor Donald Fields officiating. Private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with family the present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Eileen was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 26, 1945, the daughter of David L. and Audrey A. (Pulleybank) McCormick. When she was young, her family moved to a small farm near Dexter, Michigan. Eileen graduated from Dexter High School, Dexter, Michigan with the class of 1963. She then graduated from Cleary College with a business degree and worked for the University of Michigan Placement Center. Later she earned an Associate Degree at Baker College.
On January 29, 1965, Eileen married Harvey Thomas Wheeler at Unadilla Township, Michigan. They lived in married student housing at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan until his graduation in January 1967. Eileen and Harvey moved to a farm near Ovid, Michigan where they raised their four children: Bonnie, Debbie, Harvey Jr., and Thomas. They were blessed with sixty years of marriage.
Eileen's faith was the bedrock of her life. She and Harvey were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Owosso where she taught Sunday School and was an AWANA leader. Eileen was active in her community. She served on the Ovid Library Board, worked for RAVE for many years, and volunteered in her children's schools.
Eileen is survived by her husband Harvey; four children: Bonnie (Kevin) Puckett of Stockbridge, MI; Debra Kelly-Wheeler of Elsie, MI; Harvey Jr. (Melissa) Wheeler of St. Charles, MI; and Thomas (Angela) Wheeler of Owosso, MI; seven grandchildren: Rachel Kelly, Jacob (Krystal) Kelly, Zoe Puckett, Natalee Wheeler, Eli Wheeler, Brynlee Wheeler, and Everlee Wheeler; sisters: Carole Paplin, and Judith (Richard) Ashley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
