Elinor McDiarmid Lockwood Gallant, of Perrinton and formerly of St. Johns died January 31, 2015 at the Laurels of Fulton at the age of 97. Born March 3, 1917 in St. Johns, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Minnie (Mathieson) McDiarmid. Elinor graduated from St. Johns High School class of 1935, was a member of United Methodist Church in St. Johns, and retired from Wolverine Shoe in Ithaca.
In 1937 she married Lafie Lockwood and together they had 4 children. After their divorce in 1954, Elinor met Clair Gallant at a New Year's Eve party and they were married on July 1, 1967. She enjoyed traveling and camping with Clair, going out to dinner, riding in parades on wagons pulled by ponies, and attending Clair's pony pull competitions. After Clair's death in 1990, Elinor moved to St. Johns where she enjoyed going to lunch with family and friends, especially Kay Pratt, who dined with her when family was unable. Elinor loved being around her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Surviving are two children, Janis Lavonne (Kelvin) Price and Chester (Linda) Lockwood; daughter-in-law, Anne Lockwood; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Clair, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Lockwood; daughter, Darlene Lockwood Hope; 6 brothers, Kenneth, Robert, Donald, Allen, Neal, and Bruce McDiarmid; 1 sister, Ruth Pettit; and grandson, Kale Price.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns with Pastor Bill Dye officiating. Burial will be at Washington Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday, February 2, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pompeii Methodist Church for the Wesley Woods Building Fund.
