Eliseo "Chum" Ornelas, age 88, of Grand Ledge, MI and formerly of Ovid, MI died Saturday, April 19, 2014. Born August 17, 1925, he was the son of Edward and Maria (Luna) Ornelas. Chum served in the US Army, worked in a factory in the automotive industry, was a member of the UAW #605 and the Grand Ledge Baptist Church.
Chum is survived by his sons, Gordon Ornelas of Seattle, WA and William Ornelas of San Diego, CA; step-children, Terry (Toni) Ornelas of Elsie, MI and Sheryl (Victor) Carbone of Shadyside, MD; brother, Oscar (Dorothy) Ornelas, sisters; Anita Kiter, Josephine Sheldon, Emma Gordoa, Rosemary Ornelas; 4 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and Alfred Ornelas; and sister, Helen Martinez.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Ovid, 301 S. Main, Ovid, MI 48866 with Pastor Andrew Ford officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Greater Lansing, 865 S. Cedar St., Mason, MI 48854.
