Elizabeth K. "Betty" Blakely, age 88, of Elsie, MI died Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 at her residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI, Bannister, Michigan, on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 10 am, Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday & Monday 4-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Elizabeth was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 7, 1919, the daughter Paul & Ann Vitek. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns and attended Lansing Business College. On April 1, 1944 she married Norman A. Blakely at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI. She worked as a teachers aid at Ovid Elsie Schools, E.E. Knight Elementary Elsie, Michigan. She was active in 4-H, she and her husband planted flowers throughout the county and at their church. Elizabeth was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister and a member of the Altar Society, and Elsie Literary Club.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Katherine A. Blakely of Franklin, Tennessee, Marie E. and Mike Thelen of Franklin, Tennessee, Helen R. and Mike Potter of Middleton, Michigan, 1 son Norman D. Blakely of Elsie, Michigan, 6 grandchildren; Katrina A. and Jake Stewart of Ashley, Norman Paul Blakely and fiancée Amanda of Ashley, Mary A. Blakely of Williamston, Joseph M. Thelen of Franklin, Tennessee, Joshua Potter of Middleton, Michigan, Joel Thelen of Franklin, Tennessee, 1 great grandson Norman Hunter Blakely of Ashley, Michigan, 2 sisters; Vicky Somers of Tucson, Arizona; & Peggy Schumaker of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 1 brother Alex Vitek, and 1 sister Frances Fox
