Ellen Marie Farrar

Ellen Marie Farrar age 95 passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living in Alma, Michigan.

Marie was born on November 24, 1921 to Bruce and Myrtle Butcher of Wheeler, Michigan. She attended Wheeler schools.  Marie married Gerald Farrar on October 24, 1938. After 60 years of marriage, Gerald preceded her in death on April 9, 1999.

Marie raised her family in Wheeler, Michigan and worked out of her home as a cosmetologist.  After her husband, Jerry, retired from barbering, they moved to St. Louis, Michigan.  As a young couple, they enjoyed their family stays with friends at Higgins Lake.

In the First Church of God, Marie and Jerry ministered by singing together using the guitar and harmonica.  They loved to teach the Bible to both young married and adults.  Because Christ was the center of their lives, they had prayer and studied scripture as a family at breakfast time daily.

Marie was a servant to her family and to all who crossed her path through her beauty shop.  She loved to cook and bake, especially holiday meals for family.  Marie had great insight into her sons and was instrumental in guiding them.

Marie is survived by her sons:  Jon (Sandra) of Oxford, Michigan and Tom (Doreen) of Alma, Michigan; 5 grandchildren: David (Gerri) Farrar, Rebecca (Mark) Salva, Pamela Hoard, Benjamin Farrar, and Nathan (Melissa) Farrar; 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, and son Jesse at age 5.

A Celebration of Marie's life and faith will be on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alma First Church of God.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Donations in Marie's honor may be made to the Alma First Church of God.  Interment will take place at the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, Michigan.
