Elmer Walter

Elmer Arlo Walter, age 83, of Elsie, MI passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Herb Wheelock will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Elmer was born in Saginaw County, Michigan on November 16, 1925, the only son of Arlo and Florence (Sharp) Walter. Elmer married Doris Beeman on September 13, 1947 at Ovid Congregational Church. Elmer resided most of his life in Fairfield Township and attended the Chapin United Methodist Church Elsie, MI.

Elmer retired from Motor Wheel of Lansing as a Maintenance Welder in 1988 and was a farmer his entire life. Elmer enjoyed hunting & trapping. He liked to winter in Florida, enjoyed going to Gospel Concerts and loved to plant trees enjoying all of nature.

He is survived by his wife Doris Walter of Elsie, MI, 3 daughters; Nancy and Jeffery Debo of Holly, MI, Marsha Walter of Elsie, MI, Pamela Grasso of Owosso, MI, 2 sons; Mark Walter of Elsie, MI, Jim and Kara Walter of Elsie, MI, grandchildren; Cory Wilson, Jackie Walter, Mindy Walter, Ben Walter, Erin and Eric Bonnette, Shawn Debo, Dante Grasso, Tony Grasso, Amber Drury and Caitlyn Walter. Elmer is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Arlo, mother Florence Walter Robinson, step-father, Lloyd Robinson and his grandson Derek Wilson.
