Emily Jo Brown

     Emily Jo Brown, age 13, of Houghton Lake, MI, formerly of Alma, MI, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023.

     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with Pastor Carl Cecil officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at the funeral home.

     Emily was born in Alma, Michigan on July 31, 2009, the daughter of Todd Richard Brown and Amanda Jo Freed. She attended Alma Public Schools.

     Emily was passionate about music and writing. She enjoyed animals, being outside, and campfires with family. Emily was a talented artist. She liked shopping, fashion, and make up. She would often go out to watch the sunset over the lake. Her family and friends will miss her humor, pranks, and goofiness.

     She is survived by her mother Amanda Freed of Alma, MI; father Todd Brown of Middleton, MI; brother Evan Brown of Alma, MI; grandmother Sheila McElhaney of Lake, MI; grandparents David and Mary Jo Freed of Levering, MI; grandmother Cristie Brown of Higgins Lake, MI; grandparents Rodney and Cyndi Brown of Crystal, MI; great-grandfather Phil Coston, great-grandmother Barbara Davis, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents: AJ and Joyce Freed, Carolyn Coston, Carol and Sybil Brown, and Duane and Beverly Hoeft.
