Emma Dunavant

Emma Kent Dunavant, age 86, of St. Johns, Michigan died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, Michigan on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Dye officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Emma was born in Ashley, Michigan on September 14, 1928, the daughter of William and Carrie (Ackels) Shaw. She graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1946. On June of 1948 she married Max Kent; Max predeceased her in 1989. She then married William Dunavant, he also preceded her in death. Emma worked and retired from the Bank of Alma in Ashley; she then went to work for Old Kent Bank in St. Johns retiring from there as well. Emma enjoyed playing cards, and made many quilts and afghans. She also enjoyed reading and find a word puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter Jeannie and Bob Anderson of Ithaca, MI, 2 sons; Michael Kent of Roscommon, MI, Randy and Judy Kent of Troy, MI, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister Evelyn and Dick Parling, 2 brothers; Grover and Pat Shaw, and Gerald and Carol Shaw, she is also survived by her sister in law Patricia MacDonald and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, both of her husbands, and siblings; Frank, Joe, Ernest, Richard, Clifford, Olga, Bill, Dorothy and George.
