Erma Gilbert

Erma Lucille Gilbert, age 91, of Owosso, MI died Monday, February 13th, 2012 at Oliver Woods.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Owosso, MI on Friday, February 17th at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Calvin Long will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso, MI.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 16th from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.

Erma was born in Montague, Michigan on July 20, 1920, the daughter of Otto A. and Dorothy M. (Critchett) Stevens. She resided most of her life in Owosso and was a graduate of Durand High School.

Erma was married to Robert Gilbert on November 5, 1949 at the First United Methodist Church in Owosso and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1995 after nearly 46 years of marriage.

Erma worked at Redmans for 9 years, Owosso High School for 3 years and retired as a Nurse Technician from Owosso Memorial Healthcare in 1986 after 20 years of service.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Owosso Travel Club. Since 1979, Erma and Bob were members of the Owosso Area Camera Club from which she won Slide of the Year in 2007. She also received the Bronze Medal from the Southwestern Council of Camera Clubs.

She and her husband traveled throughout the United States and Canada with several trips to Hawaii. Since Bob's death, Erma traveled to Austria, Germany and Switzerland, Central America and up the Amazon River.

She also loved camping, classical music, indoor plants and flowers, garage sales (a good bargain), crafts and art.

Erma is survived by two daughters, Carol Parisho of Ypsilanti, MI, and Cynthia (Paul) Francis of Elmira, MI, five grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Kler, Patrick (Marcia) Francis, Andrea (Mike) Malik, Nicholas Parisho and Galen Snowdon and four great grandchildren, Paul and Taylor Kler, Karson Francis and Abigail Malik. Erma also has one sister, Eleanor Wermuth of Vassar, MI, two sisters-in-law, Jean Hauser of Ionia, MI and Vera Stevens of Vernon, MI, six nieces, five nephews and special friends Joe and Shelva Cebulski and Roger and Sandy Elford.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Erma was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Stevens and Verald Stevens and one nephew, Richard Stevens.
