Erma Lucille Root, age 92, of Breckenridge, MI passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at Mid Michigan Medical Center - Gratiot, Alma, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wheeler, Michigan on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Larry Warsinski officiating. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ithaca, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 1, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, Michigan.
Lucille was born in Bethany Township, Michigan on October 29, 1921, the daughter of Ernest Daniel and Cecile Belle (Morrow) Kehl. She graduated with the class of 1939 from St. Louis High School. On November 7, 1940 Lucille married Andrew Root in Elkart, Indiana; Andy died in 1996. Lucille had worked for Gratiot County Extension Office in Ithaca, Michigan for 10 years. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and fishing and was a big sports fan. Lucille was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wheeler, Michigan. She had resided most of her life in the Breckenridge and St. Louis area.
She is survived by daughter Judy Root of Breckenridge, MI, 4 sons; Andy and Vicki Root of Crystal, MI, Dan and Kris Root of Wake Forrest, NC, Cal and Carol (Simberg) Root of Elmhurst, IL, Kehl and Terry Root of St. Louis, MI, 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 2 sisters in law; Karen Kehl and Beulah Claspole, brother in law Codge Swett. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 3 great grandchildren, 3 sisters and 2 brothers and 2 brothers in law.
