Ernest W. Stewart, age 82, of Owosso, MI passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso.
Visitation will be held Tuesday January 6, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso. A Graveside Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM, Rev. Tim Whalen will officiate.
Ernest was born in Vernon Township, Michigan on January 25, 1926, the son of Oliver W. and Bessie (Swarthout) Stewart. He married Wanda Garland on June 5, 1954 in Flint, MI and resided most of his life in Corunna and moved to Alger, MI after retiring. Ernest served in the U.S. Army in Germany and worked for General Motors for 30 years. He also enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Stewart of Owosso, MI, 7 children; Brenda and David Peterman of Owosso, MI, Ruth and Don Pierce of St. Johns, MI, Ellen and Jim Buchholz, Jr. of Fenton, MI, Barbara and Scott Christman of Victoria, VA, Betsy and Jim Baumgras of Henderson, MI, Mark and Michelle Stewart of Henderson, MI, Martha and Rick McPherson of Thompsonville, MI, 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister Hollis Dodge of Florida, brother Lawrence and Nona Stewart of North Carolina, and sister-in-law Grace Stewart of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Stewart and great-granddaughter, Hannah Steck.
