Erwin Hansen

Erwin Leroy Hansen, age 72 of Elwell, Michigan formerly of Edmore, Michigan left this earthly life for his heavenly home with Jesus to be welcomed by his parents, and granddaughter Michelle, on Tuesday March 30, 2004 at his home.
A Celebration of his life will be held Friday, April 2, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Lincoln Road United Methodist Church Riverdale, Michigan. Pastor Nancy Bitterling will officiate with burial at Vinewood Cemetery in Edmore, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Home in St. Louis, Michigan.
Erwin was born on December 29, 1931 in Entrican, Michigan, the son of Leroy and Helen Marie ( Christiansen ) Hansen. He graduated from Edmore High School with the class of 1950. On January 27, 1951 he married JoAnn Doolittle at Ferris Center Church of Christ in Vestaburg. He retired from General Electric/Hitachi in 1986. Erwin was a genuine, kind man who very much enjoyed teaching others, and visiting with people. He was an adopt-a-reader volunteer at Webb Elementary School in Edmore. He & JoAnn traveled to Gulf Shores, AL for their winters, where there he enjoyed golfing and many other activities. In the past, Erwin liked to bicycle, and water ski. He loved his family, and it gave him great joy to visit and spend time with his grandchildren. He resided most of his life in Edmore, until moving to Elwell 17 years ago, after retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years JoAnn Hansen of Elwell, MI, 1 Son Randy & Tari Hansen of Macomb, MI. 1 Daughter Sheri & Rick Bartlett of Edmore, 6 grandsons Joshua & Sarah Bartlett of St. Louis, MI, Niels & Lynell Hansen of Battle Creek, MI Axel Hansen of Madison, WI, Kiel Hansen of Macomb, MI, Dane Hansen of Macomb, MI, Christian Hansen of Macomb, MI, 2 great grandchildren Taylor Smith & Gavin Hansen, 1 sister Louanna Clark of Six Lakes, MI, 1 brother Wayne & Janet Hansen of Edmore, MI, 1 sister Donna & Allen Anderson of Edmore, MI, 1 Brother-in-law Earl & Betty Doolittle of Crystal, MI, 3 sisters-in-law, Genevieve & Norman Healey of Lansing, MI Donna & Denny Nayback of Lansing, MI, Marilyn & Bill Malone of Newark, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 granddaughter Michelle Marie Bartlett on April 27, 2001, brother-in-law Darrel Clark and nephew Ronald Andersen.
Memorials may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice and Lincoln Road United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
