Ethel Thompson

Ethel F. Thompson, age 79, of Ashley, MI passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at Ashley Care Center, Ashley, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:00 P.M.  Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 13, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Ethel was born in Marion Township, Michigan on June 26, 1936, the daughter of William and Marie (Fisher) Siegler.  She resided most of her life in Marion Township, Ashley, and Bannister.  Ethel graduated from Merrill High School.  Ethel married David Stephen Thompson on July 24, 1957 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church, Marion Springs, MI.  David preceded her in death on November 16, 2001.

Ethel was the 'official mom' of the Racy Free Methodist Girl's Softball Team, the Racy Rovers.  She loved working in her flower gardens and feeding the birds.  Ethel will be remembered for her cooking skills.  She was a member of the American Legion.

She is survived by 4 children; Fran Porubsky of Merrill, MI, David Thompson of Marion Springs, MI, Marijo and Jeff  Reeder  of Tucson, AZ, Laurie McElhaney of Marion Springs, MI, 8 grandchildren; Amanda (Gary Emerson) Porubsky, Nicole (Jonathan Hoyt) Porubsky, Tara Thompson, Jackie Reeder, Jeffery Reeder, Allison Reeder, Wayne and April McElhaney, Alecia (Patrick Jewel) McElhaney, 12 great grandchildren; Peyton, Bentley, Zane, Christina, Niklas, Tristan, Jessica, Keith, Axel, Liam, Maverick, and Autumn, special friend Margaret Brown, and many friends at the Ashley Care Center.  Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael A. Thompson in June of 1979, and brothers; Fred Siegler, Max Siegler, Don Siegler and Junior Siegler, and sister Emiline Woolston.
