Eugene Gurden, age 87, of Owosso, MI passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. John Walworth officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2011 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
Eugene was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 14, 1923, the son of Ernest F. and Mary B. (Holzheuer) Gurden. He resided most of his life in Owosso. Eugene married JoAnn Reynolds on September 4, 1948 in Durand. JoAnn passed away December 15, 1994. Eugene retired from Johnson Controls, Owosso in 1985. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Eugene was a member of the Corunna VFW Post #4005 where he served as past Commander and was a member of the American Legion Owosso Post. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Sage Lake.
He is survived by his daughter Terry and Gary Hudson of Lansing, MI, grandchildren; Aimee and Stephan Schubert of St. Charles, MO, Elisha Hudson, Erikka Hudson and Ryan Hudson of Lansing, MI, great-grandchildren; Vivian Schubert and Dominick Schubert, sister Betty Smith of Owosso, MI, and brother Wayne Gurden of Owosso, MI. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife JoAnn, a daughter Cindy Gurden, brother Charles Gurden and 2 sisters; Ernestine Numerich and Rosemary Compton.
