Eugene J. Root age 58 of Alma, Michigan died Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Merritt Bongard will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2005 from 2-4 P.M. & 6-8 P.M.

Eugene was born in Alma, Michigan on September 27, 1947 the son of Elmer & Thelma ( Courser ) Root He resided in Alma, Michigan most of his life and graduated from St. Louis High School. Eugene married Dawn H. Dringenberg on May 2, 1979 in Alma, Michigan. He was a truck driver and jack of all trades, he enjoyed fishing, listing to old rock & roll music, playing cards, especially poker and was an excellent chess player. He served his country in the U.S. Army, serving 2 tours in Vietnam, and was a member of the VFW & American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Root of Alma, MI, 1 daughter Jammie Root of Alma, MI, 2 sons; Michael J. Root of Alma, MI, Corey Root of Lansing, MI, 1 granddaughter Corrine Root of Florida, 1 sister Cyndie Bowers of Alma, MI, and 2 brothers; Vivan & Sally Root of St. Louis, MI and Larry & Anita Root of Louisville, KY. He is predeceased by his parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
