Evelyn "Kate" Kathryne Geyer (Derry) age 84 of St. Louis, Michigan, died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at Schnepp Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 P.M. and Tuesday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Rev Sam Dunbar will officiate and burial will take place in North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan.
Kate was born on July 29, 1922 in De Tour, Michigan the daughter of Menard and Mae (McDonald) Goetz. She had graduated from De Tour Village High School with the class of 1940. She had married Howard R. Geyer in DeTour Village, MI on June 1, 1947. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1973. She is survived by her second husband, Carl Derry whom she married on April 26, 1999. She resided most of her life in St. Louis, Michigan. Kate was very active in the St. Louis Foster Grandparent Program in which she was well known as "Grandma Cake".
She was also a member of the St. Louis VFW Ladies Auxiliary. For many years, Kate was an assistant manager of the Alma Big Boy Restaurant. She was also employed through the St. Louis Public Schools for many years holding various jobs. She spent and enjoyed many summers at her cottage on Drummond Island. Kate was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis, where she was also a member of the Altar Society.
Survivors include her 4 children, Michael H. Geyer of Lansing, MI, Patricia J. Crow of Lansing, MI, Sue M. Norman of Orlando, FL, Beverly G. Geyer of Lansing, MI, 4 grandchildren, Nakomi Rudlong of Monticello, MN, Christopher Wojtowicz of Colorado Springs, CO, Tracie Brugger of Kalamazoo, MI, Brandy Geyer of Lansing, MI, 3 great grandchildren Cody, Gracie, and Lily, 1 sister, Angela Barrette De Tour Village, MI, 1 brother, William A. & Betsey Goetz St. Louis, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, first husband, 1 sister Virginia McPhee, and a brother James A. Goetz. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
