Evelyn Esther Hoover, 95, of St. Johns, MI, peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on her 70th Wedding Anniversary, Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at her home surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Roy T. Hoover and Pastor Scott Seelhoff officiating.  Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Evelyn was born in Boyd, WI on August 29, 1924, the daughter of George N. and Sophia (Komers) Truax. In 1942, Evelyn graduated from high school in Highland Park, IL, and entered the Cadet Corps where she later earned her RN degree. Throughout the years, she nursed at multiple places.

Evelyn met Roy T. Hoover at the Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute in St. Louis, MO. They were married on June 10, 1950 at First Baptist Church in Waukegan, IL. Together they spent the rest of their lives serving the Lord as missionaries in the Philippines, Dominica, Hawaii, and in pastorates in Missouri, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, and Michigan. She played the piano in the church until she was 95 years old. They were members of the Ovid Bible Church.

Evelyn was faithful to read her Bible and pray for others, especially her family. She loved crossword puzzles, and reading books. She was a great letter writer and greatly enjoyed receiving cards and letters. She was a homemaker and had a gift of making a home in the many places they lived. Evelyn deeply loved her family.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 70 years Roy, 3 children: Christy (Al) Ross of Albion, Tim (Diane) Hoover of Edgewood, IA, and Linda (John) Brooke of St. Johns; daughter-in-law Vicki Hoover of Peosta, IA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Joey (Jessie) Hoover, Eric Brundage, Ben (Erin) Hoover, Rachel (Chad) Green, Sarah (Gabe) Rookus, Matt (Suzy) Hoover, Timmy (Jodi) Hoover, Stephanie Hoover, Lance (Brandy) Lake, Adam (Kayla) Lake, Amy (Dan) Crockett, Mandy Brooke, Tami (Jason) Hughes, and Traci Brooke; 31 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren, and very special nieces and nephews.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Ruth, son Mark, granddaughter Cleta Brundage, and 2 sisters: Valda Drake, and Grizzella "Billy" Neill.
