Evelyn Eleanor Slocum, age 90, of Owosso, MI passed away Monday, February 16, 2009 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Owosso, MI on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., Rev. David Russell will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery Owosso Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 17, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI.
Evelyn was born in Dewitt, Michigan on September 27, 1918, the daughter of Albert H. and Katherine (Kaufman) Lietzke. Evelyn married Clifford Slocum on May 11, 1940 in Dewitt, MI. He passed away on May 17, 2006. Evelyn resided most of her life in Shiawassee County. Evelyn was a Teacher's Aide at Owosso Junior High School for 13 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and also a very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Owosso where she also sang in the choir for 20 years. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, knitting & sewing.
She is survived by her 2 sons; Gary and Patricia Slocum of Corunna, MI & Marvin Slocum of Leonard, MI, 2 daughters; Katherine Champion of Owosso, MI & Janet and Craig Bartholomew of Battle Creek, MI, 5 grandchildren; Steven Pennock, Gregory Slocum, Jeffrey Slocum, Allen Bartholomew & Sarah Bartholomew and 4 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, Philip Pennock, and 2 sons-in-law, William Pennock & Richard Champion.
