Fata Auala Sagapolu tele passed away peacefully, on Monday, September 21, 2015, surrounded by her children, after a short battle with brain cancer. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and auntie who will be sorely missed by many who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her father, mother, son Norman and grandchildren Jay and Shawn Schreiner. She is survived by her 7 children; Julian Peterson Oahu HI, Mark (Ululani) O'Dell of the big island of Hawaii, Kathy (Lou) Schreiner of Grayling MI, Mike (Anne) O'Dell of Ovid MI, Kara (Jim) Walter of Elsie MI, Kristina (Rey) Soliz of St. Johns MI, Scott (Angel) Mendham of St. Johns MI, 27 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, brothers; Tovia and John, sisters; Fuli, Vimoi, Ana, Faailo.
Fata was born in American Samoa (date unknown) and was given in marriage at a young age, as was the Samoan way, to a man who resided in Oahu, Hawaii. Shortly after this, the rest of the Sagapolu Aiga (family) relocated to Kaneohe, Hawaii. Fata lived there for many years, had 1 child, before marrying a marine from Michigan. During this time, she picked president's day as her birthday with an approximate birth year of 2/12/39 and she had 5 children with this marine. After some time, she was re-married and had 2 more children. She lived in Michigan for many years before returning to Hawaii when her father died. She visited Michigan on many occasions over the next 22 years until finally re-locating to Michigan permanently, in 2005, to be with her children. She was a homemaker most of her life and worked in customer service in Hawaii. She loved Jesus, her children, music, playing her ukulele, playing card and dice games, and talking stories with her family.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at her daughter Kara's Home 5519 North Carland Road, Elsie, Michigan 48831 on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 1:00 P.M.
