Fern Schmid

Fern Irene Schmid age 81, of Perrinton, MI, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Doug Straight officiating.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00A.M.-2:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, St. Johns, MI at a later date.

Fern was born in Perrinton, MI on January 20, 1937, the daughter of Bernard and Beulah (Howe) Mills.  She resided most of her life in Gratiot County.

Fern loved to play Bingo and enjoyed camping.  Most importantly she loved being with her grandchildren, friends and family.  Fern also enjoyed karaoke and loved to dance.

She is survived by her daughter Belinda and Jay Sr. Southwell of Laingsburg, MI; son Bill Schmid of Perrinton, MI; son-in-law Mike Hulsey of Jasper, AL; 7 grandchildren: Melinda Ellsworth of Dansville, MI; Jay and Tammy Southwell Jr. of Perry, MI; Heather and Jay Allen of Laingsburg, MI; Scott and Raydena Southwell of Morrice, MI; Dayton Hulsey of the United States Marines; Nicki Hulsey of Jasper, AL; Crate Hulsey of Jasper, AL; 4 great-grandchildren; Lisa, Jay III, Hope and Garrett; brother Glen and Marilee Mills of Perrinton, MI; sister Dorthann and Kenny Teed of Pompeii, MI; brother Dewayne and Lorraine Mills of Ithaca, MI, and many nieces and nephews.  Fern was preceded in death by her parents, son Scott and Jayne Schmid, daughter Janet Hulsey, and brothers: Lyle and Ann Mills, and Gordon Mills.
