Fernia C. Crawfis, age 94, of Kalkaska, Michigan, formerly of Riverdale, MI passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Warwick Living Center in Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor John Hagerman officiating. Burial will take place at Ferris Center Cemetery, Vestaburg, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Fernia was born in Montcalm County, Michigan on September 27, 1918, the daughter of Beryl and Ethel (Riese) Woodard. She attended Alma Public Schools. Fernia married John Clement Crawfis on July 19, 1936 in Owosso, MI. Clement preceded her in death on June 1, 1998. Fernia was born and raised in the Riverdale area, and had resided in Kalkaska since 1962. Fern enjoyed sewing, crafting, and was a wonderful cook. She and Clement also enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling to Florida for the winter months. She worked for several years at Camp Tanuga at Manistee Lake. Fern and Clement owned and operated an excavating business at Manistee Lake, in which she was active in the daily operations. She was an officer with the County Extension Office, and was a past member Ferris Center Church of Christ.
She is survived by daughter Gladys and Leon Avery of Riverdale, MI, son Clare and Mary Crawfis of Carson City, MI, daughter Lois Bennett of Ithaca, MI, 7 grandchildren; Sheila and Fred Papendick of Edmore, MI, Mark and Wendy Crawfis of Carson City, MI, Lori and Allen Bogart of Riverdale, MI, Teresa and Doug Puffpaff of Carson City, MI, Brian Crawfis of Carson City, MI, Rick and Barbara Bennett of Lake Ann, MI, Lisa Richardson and Karl Enos of Reed City, MI, 10 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, sister Jennie Grandy of Lansing, MI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great grandson Nicholas Richardson, son in law Gordon Bennett, 3 sisters, 1 brother, 3 half brothers, and 1 half sister.
