Frances Lake

Frances Reota Lake, age 96, of Owosso, MI passed away Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at Memorial Healthcare Centers, Long-term Care Unit.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI on Wednesday, February 18th at 11:00 A.M., Pastor John Walworth will officiate. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

God's plan for Frances was to live long and to spread the seeds of love, kindness and happiness among family, friends and to whomever else she might meet. This task she always fulfilled.

She was born April 9, 1912, the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Maurer) Kennedy. On May 9, 1931 she married Ned Lake in Durand. Other than enjoying an eternity of being a housewife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, she had briefly worked at the Walker Candy Company in the 1930's where she hand-dipped assorted chocolates.

She enjoyed the outdoors and all of nature's creations, often recalling her earlier years as a farmer's wife, canning fruits and vegetables, churning butter, lots of baking and numerous farm chores.

After Fran's husband died in 1979, she lived alone until she was 92. She prided herself on her flower gardens and keeping a beautiful lawn and was proud of being selected as a recipient of the "Making Corunna A Beautiful Place To Live" Award. Another honor that she was equally proud of was her selection as resident of the month at Memorial Healthcare. In later years, she still maintained her passion and alertness for word search and crossword puzzles.

Affectionately known as "Ma' to all of her family, which she cherished so much, consists of son Richard (Sylvia) Lake of Owosso, daughters Doris Brady of Corunna, Connie (John) Blanchett of Owosso, Deborah (Leonard) Wright of Owosso and one daughter-in-law Lois Lake. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 20 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, sisters Louise Epley and Mary Bender and brother Duane Kennedy. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ned, son Ned jr., grandsons Joel Wright and Bruce Lake, great grandson Tyler Chambers, two brothers William and Rolland and one sister Joyce Currie.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Healthcares 5th Floor Long Term Care.
