Frank Joe Chapko, age 85, of Elsie, MI passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Marcel Portelli officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013, and on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Frank was born in Ashley, Michigan on June 2, 1927, the son of Stephen and Elizabeth (Skriba) Chapko. On November 3, 1951 Frank married Mildred "Micky" Ann Ladiski at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan. Frank and Micky resided in the Elsie area for 60 years, raising their 9 children. Frank retired from S&H Farm Implement in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, camping and spending time with family. Frank had a polka band and played drums. He loved playing his accordian for family and friends and is in the Michigan Polka Hall of Fame. Frank was a member of the K of C, Council # 13449, and St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife Micky Chapko of Elsie, MI, 5 daughters; Elaine and Jon Bartholic of Laingsburg, MI, Marcia Price of Elsie, MI, Lori and Jim Porubsky of Bannister, MI, Michelle and Craig Bisson of Ovid, MI, Tamara Bodine-Wilson and Ted Stanley of Coto De Caza, CA, 4 sons; Frank and Yolanda Chapko of Bannister, MI, John and Lisa Chapko of Elsie, MI, Jeff and Camie Chapko of Elsie, MI, Tim and Tammy Chapko of Jackson, GA, 30 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, with 5 great grandchildren on the way, 2 sisters; Margaret Chovance, Mary and Stan Divish, and 3 brothers; Tony and Rose Chapko, Steve and Mildred Chapko, and Charlie Chapko. Frank was predeceased by his parents, grandson Creigh Bisson, 3 sisters; Irene, Helen, and Ann and 4 brothers; Joe, Mike, John and Bill.
