Frank John Powell of Corunna went to be with his Lord and Savior and his loving wife who passed before him. His family was at his side when he died peacefully at the V.A. Hospital in Saginaw on Friday, May 8, 2009. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday on Monday.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life for Frank will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Owosso Eagles Aerie 851, at 308 N. Washington Street, Owosso, at 2:00 P.M. for family and friends.
Frank was born in Owosso on May 4, 1919, the son of Steve and Augusta (Slovak) Polakovich. After graduation from High School, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in several cities in the United States during WWll. He met Leona May Bemiss of Owosso while both were home on military leave. They were married on October 20, 1944. Frank later attended college in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Redmond's and most recently at American Aerosol retiring in 1980.
Frank loved his Detroit Tigers. He watched football and hockey. He enjoyed reading, playing and watching golf on Tv and spending time with his loving family both at home and up North. He also enjoyed "inventing." He was a past member of the DAV and the Owosso Eagles. Frank was a kind and gentle man and dearly loved by his family and he will be greatly missed.
Frank and Leona had two daughters, Linda (Dennis) Taphouse of Corunna and Judith(Donald) Manker of Lansing, six grandchildren, Scott, Chris and Greg Taphouse, and Kristine(Jamie) Smythe, Jeffrey (Teya) Manker and Amy Manker, five great-grandchildren, Owen and Olivia Smythe, Grant Manker, Tyson Manker and Adrina Taphouse. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leona on July 9, 1986, his parents, six brothers, Joe, Steve, Bill, Jim, John, Henry and two sisters Helen and Maryann.
