Fred Harvey Hanson age 98, of Dewitt, Michigan formerly of Roscommon, Michigan passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Prestige Pines Assisted Living, Dewitt, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, 104 East Cass Street, St. Johns, Michigan, on Friday September 2, 2016 at 12:00 P.M.  Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Fred was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 18, 1918, the son of Harry Burt and Daisy (Veen) Hanson.  He graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1936.  He served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during WW II.  On April 11, 1938 Fred married Virginia Healy in St. Louis Michigan. Virginia passed away on August 7, 2000.  Fred and Virginia were second generation owners of Hanson Upholstery shop in Alma. His craft was enjoyed by many. Barbershop singing, square dancing, fishing and travels were their enjoyments with many friends. After retirement in 1987 they built their dream home and resided at Higgins Lake, Michigan.

He is survived by his brother Dale of Indian River MI, daughter Vickie Hinton of St. Johns, MI, son Ronald and his wife Nancy of Villa Hills, Kentucky, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by son Michael, his parents, sisters; Ruth Detwiler of Alma and Joyce Jones of Lakeview, and brother Carl of Alma.
